Description
Lithuania. Šilutė Train Station. 2009
-----
In this photo you see one of the new Euro style trains running between my hometown Šilutė and nearby town Klaipeda in 2009.
-----
The railway station building itself is very old. It was built while Šilutė was still a part of Germany (Prussia) and called Heydekrug. Šilutė's origin dates to an inn (Krug) catering for travelers and their horses which was located halfway between Memel and Tilsit. The German name of Heydekrug referred to a Krug (an archaic word for inn) in the Heide (heathland). The inn was known in for the most inhabitants of the region speaking the Memelland-Samogitian dialect Šilokarčema. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Šilutė )
