Very interesting collage, Ausra!! Are cepelinai similar to perogies?

Thanks for taking time to see so many photos of mine, Barbara. To answer your question, it's both yes, and no. Yes, in terms of steps that are taken to make them (I should make a collage from photos about making pyrogies I have on my HD), and the filling that can be used. No for the coat. It's different. The "shell" or "coat" of Pyrogies are made out of flour and water, and cepelinai , as you can see in the photo, are made from potatoes. Sometimes only boiled potatoes and starch are used, but most Lithuanians prefer more "real" , authentic taste of grated raw potatoes used as a base of cepelinai shell. Oh, don't get mistaken by the word "raw"! Potatoes are raw in the process of making a dish. When cepelinai get their shape they are boiled in hot water till their shell is soft and Not raw any more.

Most often cepelinai are made with meat filling but on the day I made this photo project I was making ones with curd (cottage cheese), so that's why you see this filling in this collage. Other filling Lithuanians would make are mushrooms, chopped bacon. This collage also includes a photo of Lithuanian beer which is not necessary ingredient for cepelinai but Lithuanians are proud of own beer no less than of cepelinai. That's why it's here.
